my backyard

oaks are losing their leaves finally
each breeze brings
the old to the ground in a slow drift;
you can almost see the tiny green
shoots of the new pushing them off
the branches.
orchids have decided to push forth new
blooms also -
amazing time of the year.

just a little bit

to give just a little bit
to see what needs to be done
just to reach out to others
in small bits
whether words
or a touch
a gift
maybe a smile

a little extra effort on my part
might be all that is necessary
